PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Arvind Mehta - President, Plastindia Foundation.

Dear Friends,
One of the key goals of the Foundation is to facilitate Export Led Growth of the Indian Plastic Industry with a view to double the plastic processing capacity and consumption by 2009. India is expected to become 3rd largest consumer of polymers in the world. The domestic scene in retail sector alone is going to offer historic business opportunities for plastics industry as well as consumer products. Establishment of infrastructure & SEZs will also throw up new opportunities aimed at servicing global markets. The plastic industry, therefore, has an unprecedented challenge ahead, to gear up or seize this opportunity. Plastindia Foundation would constantly work to assess the readiness of the business and provide boost to different segments for gearing up. Requirements of skilled manpower and processing machinery and dies & molds would pose formidable challenges. India must have good Product Design Center established at the earliest to cater to increasing demand for new products for global markets. Countries like Taiwan, Korea & Japan have succeeded in increasing their market shares relying on creativity & new designs. We have to work closely with educational and technical polymer institutions in order to increase human development resources.

Plastindia Foundation would maintain focus on exhibition & conference as main platform for bringing together the business house in domestic as well as global markets. While Plastindia 2009 would be held in New Delhi from February 4-9, 2009 there would be many opportunities in the interim period to tap and organize overseas participation in International Exhibitions to enable businessmen to capture the overseas opportunities for finished products, machinery, molds and ancillaries, thereby projecting and promoting the capabilities of Indian Plastic Industry overseas which would ultimately lead to establishment of India as a sourcing hub for the world in the field of plastics.

I urge the Indian Plastic Industry to devote all their expansion plans to capture these opportunities.

Plastindia Foundation would continue to give regular updates on these events & programs in due course.

Thanks & Regards,

Arvind Mehta
