PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Plastindia Foundation on the path of charting new avenues to address the current economic and business environment.

It gives me immense pleasure and pride to communicate first time as President    of Plastindia Foundation to all the stakeholders of Plastindia Foundation.

First and foremost there is little doubt on the historic nature of the 100th     Managing Committee Meeting probably for the first time in Plastindia’s history        all the office Bearers have been elected unanimously by the Managing      Committee for the term 2009-2012. This reflects the trust and faith     amongst the Plastindia members and I believe this will go down as a     memorable instance in the history of Plastindia Foundation.

I'd like to take this opportunity to extend my thanks to all for your  considerations of the issues involved, with particular appreciation to past president Arvindbhai and his team including all those individuals and Founder member Associations who took pains for their work in guiding this unanimous choice.

As President, Plastindia Foundation I sincerely hope to get the cooperation of all members and my office bearers, Bipin Bhai Shah, KK Seksaria & PIF office Staff to chart new paths to face the current challenges of the economy and particularly the Indian Plastic industry is experiencing.

Currently Plastindia Foundation stands tall among all the Industry Trade Bodies in the world and it is indeed an honour to be at its service thereby at its helm. A lot has been achieved. Benchmarks are high. Expectations are a lot. Challenges are many. And, I am aware that a lot more needs to be done to keep our position intact. It’s difficult to reach the top but it’s more challenging to remain there.

I would like to dispel all doubts about the health of the Industry, the stature of the triennial exposition PLASTINDIA and the growth of both these. These, in my opinion are inevitable and given. It’s now the qualitative aspects in both these which will be a challenge to achieve. And, for this, quality as a perception needs to percolate right across and deep down the industry. For, it’s the Industry which has created PLASTINDIA, and, it’s the Industry which has grown because of its own creation. I am a torchbearer and will initiate and implement growth strategies for the industry to help Plastindia scaling new heights.

The most critical, challenges that Indian plastic industry facing today is the “image of plastics”. Some of the myths perpetuated about plastics are:

  • Feared as being toxic
  • Could be health hazards
  • Maybe harmful to the soil
  • Could cause acid rain

These accusations leveled against plastics in general and against plastic industry in particular have been far fetched and without a sound rational basis. This is a key concern. In this context I want to mention the commendable role ICPE has played in the past. I wish in this coming months ICPE will  act more proactively as a bridge between the plastic industry on the one hand and the policy makers and the society at large on the other hand so that responsible, technically defensible and rational actions are taken in the overall public interest and environmental welfare. The recently agreed approach paper on how ICPE should be managed and resource creation for ICPE is indeed a very welcome step and I do hope it shall be implemented in its entirety in one go.

To help the industry both operational and research related fronts Plastindia has conceived and created the concept of Knowledge Centre. The Foundation believes this will  provide excellent opportunities for industry and particularly the fledging one to address  Human Resource   and research related issues.

Let me extend the formal invitation  to the Knowledge Centre and I sincerely urge you all to take this opportunity to contribute in every possible manner however small  it may be , to ensure its success. The daunting task was foreseen while the Empowerment Committee was formed and for more than 18 months deliberations and simultaneous actions are underway. But, we are far from realization of this dream. To take the futuristic thought to a logical course is another challenge I foresee for the Committee.

Plastindia Foundation cannot proceed without the efforts of dedicated individuals, and the involvement of longstanding supporters of the movement. My sincere appreciation for the 'pro bono' efforts of my predecessors and I am sure I have their well wishes to keep the momentum of Plastindia Foundation going.

    Jai ho!!!

    Warm Regards

    Ashok Kumar Goel
